Velocity Time Integral: A Novel Method for Assessing Fetal Anemia

The velocity time integral (VTI) is a clinical Doppler ultrasound measurement of blood flow, measured by the area under wave curve and equivalent to distance traveled blood. This retrospective study assessed middle cerebral artery (MCA) VTI fetuses in pregnancies complicated maternal alloimmunization. indices MCA were retrieved from electronic medical records. Systolic deceleration-diastolic time, systolic acceleration VTI, peak (PSV) at 16–40 weeks gestation. Cases with PSV indicating fetal anemia (cutoff 1.5 MoM) normal compared. included 255 examinations. Of these, 41 16–24 (group A), 100 25–32 B), 114 33–40 C). increased throughout gestation (5.5 cm, 8.6 12.1 cm groups A, B, C, respectively, p = 0.003). was higher waveforms calculated have MCA-PSV ≥ MoM compared those < (9.1 vs. 14.1 0.001), as VTI/s (22.04 cm/s 33.75 cm/s, respectively; 0.001). results indicate that increases significantly among suspected anemia, perfusion hemodiluted brain. feasible might provide novel additional marker for development anemia.
